The exquisite Roman Hall, rediscovered and revamped as part of the major rebuild of the prestigious Museum of Fine Arts completed in 2018, is now reopening after being water-damaged in June. The space, covered in elaborate murals, was originally created a century ago but left neglected for 70 years after the war.

Used as storage place for seven decades, the richly decorated Roman Hall was the most acclaimed new feature to be unveiled when Budapest’s magnificent Museum of Fine Arts reopened towards the end of 2018.

The Roman Hall since received more than half a million visitors. Heavy rain in June 2020 then damaged 30 of the 1,500 artefacts stored there, but thanks to rapid intervention, none suffered permanent damage, and all have since been restored.

The space is free to enter and accessible according to the same opening hours as the main museum itself, Thursdays to Sundays inclusive.
