A giant disc of deep-fried dough lathered in garlic, sour cream and grated cheese, lángos is a Hungarian speciality, devoured year-round, day and night. Set up at Arany János utca metro station nearly a decade ago, Retro Lángos explores a whole world of alternative toppings alongside the holy trinity of standard ones. This extensive menu is presented on a folksy signboard creating a timeless Hungarian feel.
But time, sadly, is in short supply. A victim of the long-term renovation of metro line M3, Retro Lángos has to close at the end of February – and has decided to hold a weekend festival to mark the occasion.
Starting at 4pm on Friday, 28 February and running until 11.30pm the following day, a bulldozer party will involve lángos frisbee-throwing, a garlic-guzzling contest and a trampoline for kids. Live music breaks out at 4pm on the Saturday, with a fireworks display to see Retro Lángos out in style. See details here (Hungarian-only).
The team will then set up somewhere else central – keep a watch on their Facebook page for details.
