Hungarian design duo Vates, known for putting portraits of famous poets on T-shirts, have created a new line of casual wear, emblazoning clothes with revered cartoon characters. So, if you feel like walking around with Dr Bubó or Pom Pom on your front or back over the holidays, here’s how!
Nothing engenders nostalgia like a cartoon character, fictional companions of our childhoods. For Hungarians, this means Pom Pom created by award-winning writer István Csukás who passed away this year, the Checkered-Ear Rabbit, a huge international hit in the late 1970s, and Dr Bubó, the cigar-smoking owl.
Even if you aren’t familiar with these wonderful creations, their funny faces and bizarre expressions should raise an eyebrow or two. Who can resist Gombóc Artúr, the fat, flightless bird hellbent on chocolate? T-shirts and hoodies have been made with top-quality material, their designs licensed from each film company.
