Teneré, a new health- and eco-conscious shop in Óbuda, is aiming to meet the needs of those eschewing plastic packaging, while also providing allergy-friendly options for followers of vegan, paleo and organic diets.

Teneré can be found a short walk from Kaszásdűlő HÉV station, beside main Szentendrei út. Stepping inside, the visitor is first amazed by the size of this package-free store, where the shelves are jammed with rows of organic, allergy-friendly and health-conscious products.

When creating the profile of Teneré, its young and friendly owners followed the principle of having everything in one place. Those on less conventional diets normally have to trek to several different stores until they find each product they need – here, they can do their shopping in one go, whether they’re after paleo, vegan, gluten-, lactose- or sugar-free items. Catering to those who prefer plastic-free packaging, too, sustainability is also taken seriously.

There are containers as far as the eye can see at Teneré, filled with dry goods normally found in plastic-free shops, such as seeds, legumes and dried fruit. In the fridge there are various plant-based meat substitutes, like vegan grill, wheat burgers, seitan and soy products, as well as vegan cheeses.

On the shelves you find cordials, jams, teas, biscuits, gluten-free and organic products, as well as flour alternatives from popular brands such as Szafi and Schär. As the managers told us, the store’s fruit and vegetable stock is delivered by a small producer.

At the time of writing, they were expecting hundreds more products to come in from suppliers, until their complete list of goods is assembled. The sourcing of gluten-free pastries, organic meat and dairy products is also under way.
