A new café with a Swedish approach to life has just appeared on busy Ráday utca, where you can escape the daily bustle with comforting breakfast dishes and various kinds of superfood lattes. Welcome to Kaffelandia!

In Sweden, they have something called fika time, which basically means taking a break from routine. You don’t have to go as far as packing your bags and hopping on a plane, it can be as simple as taking 20 minutes out of your day to enjoy a fine coffee or breakfast before, during or after work.

And we all need forget about work and our responsibilities, and focus on ourselves from time to time.

Founder Katalin Juhász-Krausz opened Kaffelandia with this wholesome tradition in mind. She had previously explored various parts of the hospitality industry, and after a few years of concentrating on her family, she finally decided to seek new challenges by managing her own place.

As her husband is the co-owner of the Budai Pékség bakery, Katalin also wanted to open a venue with coffee and morning cuisine, but chose Pest to locate it.

As a result, Kaffelandia has become a pleasant hideaway on Ráday utca, where delicious treats are paired with peace and quiet to help you relax. The interior was designed by Katalin’s sister, Ágnes Szeder-Krausz, with a perfect sense of Scandinavian minimalism, while the food and drinks are provided by professional suppliers. Pastries and confectioneries are sourced from Budai Pékség.

A wide variety of goodies await at the counter, with traditional options like swirls and cottage-cheese buns (túrós táska), as well as paprika slippers (kápiás papucs) and spinach-ricotta pastries – also high-quality products from Budai Pékség. Sandwiches come with vegetarian, salami and salmon fillings, among others. Pastry prices range from 290 to 450 forints, sandwiches 790-990 forints.

The confectionery range mostly follows new-wave trends, cheesecake being an absolute favourite. There are two types of coffee roasts to be found, the darker Brazilian-Guatemalan and the lighter Colombian-Guatemalan blende. The coffees are Tamás Bikki’s own roasts called Double Shot, and while currently they can only be ordered as a drink, soon the coffee beans will be available for takeaway, too.

Tamás is also behind the most unique feature of the café, the superfood latte selection. Apart from the ever more popular matcha latte, here you can find decaf specialties such as ‘butterfly’ and the turmeric superfood lattes.

The breakfast dishes are available until lunchtime, so a small brunch can also be enjoyed at Kaffelandia. Overall, the options are quite traditional, but the staff are still trying to figure out what visitors would like to see most. In addition to various omelettes and egg-based options, they offer classic egg-coated buns and stuffed French toast, too.

Pancakes
and yoghurt granolas are also available, with salads for lunch. Brunches run from 1,190-1,790 forints. A large portion of salad comes with these hearty dishes.

Kaffelandia also offers delicious bread from Nor/ma, which means that those nearby can now skip the journey to the bakery on the other side of Kálvin tér when looking for fine sourdough or buttery croissants.

This loveable new destination is likely to become the haunt of all those who enjoy a good coffee, lengthy breakfasts and a relaxed atmosphere.
