One of Budapest’s most popular party bars is closing its doors – but maybe not for good. Unveiled eight years ago on Paulay Ede utca, Anker’t quickly established itself as a key destination in the city’s nightlife zone. Now due to close on 1 February, it is planning to reopen at some point – location as yet unknown.

You can live it up at Anker’t until 1 February at least. As this popular bar has announced on its Facebook page, Anker’t is set to close after eight years of activity.

Located beside the New Theatre, the award-winning Anker’t proved itself a real pioneer as Budapest’s ruin-bar scene rapidly developed. Within a short time, it became a prime drinking destination, hosting numerous cultural, musical and fashion events, round-table discussions, exhibitions and markets.

It’s not clear why the bar is having to close or what its specific plans are for the future. What we do know is that the Anker’t crew intends to set up elsewhere at some point: ‘Something new will surely come, which will be the same and will be different. But it will!’

There’s no farewell without a farewell party, and Anker’t will strive to say their goodbyes as memorably as possible with a two-week series of events featuring friends and regulars. A detailed programme will soon be published on the bar’s Facebook page.
