It’s football’s El Clásico weekend – and The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest, has gathered its own team of Spanish chefs for a three-day gastronomic extravaganza, culminating in a live screening of the showcase clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona this Sunday night.

Linking up with La Liga, who run the most prestigious league in European football, The Ritz-Carlton, Budapest is hosting a three-day culinary celebration. Five award-winning Spanish chefs will be laying on a weekend-long spread of regional tapas, paella and fine dining, augmented by live flamenco and Spanish-inspired opera. And, of course, live coverage of the most showcase fixture in the game.

Today, Friday 28 February, tapas and Spanish wines will be served in the Kupola Lounge (1-7pm, 15,000 HUF +12% service). Tomorrow, Saturday, will see a Michelin-starred chefs' dinner at the DSK (6-9pm, 35,000 HUF +12% service), with contributions from gastronomic masters from culinary hubs as diverse as Vigo, Andalusia and Tenerife. Marinated blue fish, roast scallops and sea bass all feature on the menu.

The grand finale will be on Sunday evening, when 20 varieties of bespoke tapas will be created, one for each region represented in the Spanish League. Held in the Elizabeth Ballroom, this runs from 7-11pm and costs 15,000 forints (+12% service). The game kicks off at 9pm, with Barcelona the slight favourites after Real Madrid's disappointing performance in midweek. But anything could happen. This is, after all, El Clásico.
