This weekend, 28-29 February, the long-lost Piaf Bar is springing back into action with top DJs spinning for two nights of partying on Budapest’s very own Broadway, Nagymező utca.

A louche, late-night locale of lore, the Piaf Bar was everybody’s last port of call way, way past midnight. Long surpassed by any number of cooler, later nightspots, Piaf had its day (circa 1995) and has been closed since 2017. The speakeasy-style window, the treacherous staircase, the bordello feel upstairs and down, the brutal daylight once you staggered outside…

Now a new crew has taken it over, reviving a revered legend with respect for the past – its sign will now say ‘Edith’ – and ambitious plans for the future. In somewhat smarter surroundings than certain long-term expats might remember, the bar reopens on Friday, 28 February, with spinners Vittorio Waxman, DJ Mada and Negro taking to the decks, followed by Mesterházy and Infragandhi on Saturday night.
