“The Fans Strike Back” is the title of an exhibition being staged to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Hungarian premiere of “Star Wars”. Due to open at the riverside Bálna complex on 15 September, the show will be running all autumn until 31 December.

Ten trucks will shortly be loaded up and driven from Paris, filled with Europe’s largest private collection of Star Wars artefacts, some 600 original items that will fill a vast exhibition space in Budapest.

In addition to official and collector’s pieces, there will be unique creations by professional artists, and the whole experience will be enhanced by special audio-visual effects.

The exhibition will also include a virtual reality feature and Jedi training area, and fans will be able to meet all their favourite characters, Chewbacca, Yoda, R2D2, C-3PO and even Darth Vader.

All tolled, there will be 30 human-sized figures in armour, the captain’s bridge from the Star Destroyer, an enormous Jabba, the Palpatine Throne Room and Anakin Skywalker's transporter.
