Visitors can swim in sprinkles, ride a unicorn or flirt with flamingos at Budapest’s Museum of Sweets & Selfies. Located near the Jewish Quarter, this unique attraction features eight rooms with eye-popping colours and backdrops for the perfect photo. It’s an Instagram dream – and one that brings in 1,000 visitors a month.

Balázs Koltai was inspired to open this bright establishment after experiencing similar attractions in America and Asia. “People like to make good pictures with fabulous backgrounds,” he says.

Despite an entrance fee in the €10 range, depending on when you go, the commonly named Selfie Museum remains inescapably popular, welcoming more than 1,000 visitors a month. Employee Greta Blenessy attributes its success to its uniqueness. “Both the new generation and the older one can enjoy themselves,” she says.

Inside the museum, the available backdrops include a swimming pool of sprinkles, an Alice in Wonderland-esque crawl space with shimmering turquoise tiles, a cherry swing, a life-size unicorn and a wall of pink flamingos, among others. There’s even a room with black lights, so pack something white for that additional glow.

Coffee, cakes and ice cream are available in the front parlour, which is bubblegum pink. Funky lights and giant plastic cherries hang from the ceiling, and outside is flanked by pink plastic palm fronds.

Some 22,000 people currently follow the museum’s Instagram page, and many of its posts come from guest submissions. What do you have to do to get featured? Take a great photo – and tag the museum. Consider framing, light and a good pose when crafting your picture.

Of course, there’s free WiFi inside. How else would you post your photos?
