In an old farmhouse in Mindszentkálla at Káli-medence just north of Balaton, Kő fagyi? has gained a huge following since setting up in 2017.
Now you can find their divine flavours at Kell fagylalt? on Maros utca in Buda. Dáni Garai and Áron Bálint are thrilled with the idea of ice-cream making, something neither has done before. After several years in the energy industry, Dani has launched into this project as a career change. Áron has already been involved in gastronomy as his family in Keszthely prepares the cordials for Budapest store Spájz, also sold here Kell fagylalt?
Their situation has been greatly facilitated by Kő fagyi Feri, aka 45-year-old Ferenc Biszku, whose concept this was. Today, everyone in the area knows him and the guys can always turn to him for professional support. Feri provided advice, recipes and the 40 flavours of ice cream he has developed.
This means that here you can choose from peach, mango, pumpkin-seed and Amarena-cherry cream, salted caramel, poppy-seed, nuts and sour-cherry (all 350 HUF), plus pistachio (550 HUF) – in a sweet or normal cone, or in a cup.
Dani and Aaron are also experimental, so you can try new flavours. The aim is to provide a more local, cosmopolitan approach, all based on prime ingredients. These flavours may even make a guest appearance in Mindszentkálla one day.
Also arriving from the Balaton Uplands is a sense of community and a friendly atmosphere. That's why they set out a terrace in front of the tiny shop, and beneath a tree on the pavement, they have tidied up an old bench to let customers sit outside and enjoy a scoop or two in the pleasant shade.
