A large-scale development for the University of Physical Education is now under way at its site in Buda, where Alkotás utca, Győri út and Kiss János altábornagy utca meet.
The main building, originally designed by Alajos Hauszmann of New York Palace fame and completed in 1884, will be preserved, and new elements will be adapted to its scale and those of the surrounding buildings. The huge wall is being transformed by experts and landscape designers into a new green feature.
The general design was created by TSPC Kft. Their concept calls for a walkable university district that meets the needs of the sports industry at the highest level with a FINA-certified pool, an indoor running track – and for local residents to gain a convivial new part of town.
The campus should be able to host training facilities for around 20 different sports, plus a four-star sports hotel. For this purpose, a roof terrace has been used to its maximum capacity: a running track will be laid out three floors up. They will also retain the façade of the protected building, being integrated into a new indoor sports hall.
