Today is World Poetry Day, when your written word serves as currency, so swap coins for prose and get a free coffee. This opportunity comes as part of the Pay with a Poem initiative by Viennese coffee roaster Julius Meinl, which annually invites everyone to unleash their inner poet, offering a free coffee to serve as artistic fuel for the creative kind. And six fortunate poets will even have the chance to win a ticket to a Meet&Greet with singer-songwriter and Julius Meinl ambassador, Tom Odell.

Thanks to coffee purveyor Julius Meinl, you can brighten up your day with a free coffee in Budapest. All you have to do is pick a participating hangout, choose a coffee and put poetry (well known or your own) on paper as payment. And if you snap a picture of your written poem and upload it to Instagram with the #PayWithaPoem hashtag, you have a chance to win one of the six Meet&Greets with Tom Odell in Glasgow on 1 June. The poems will be collected from all over the country and will be exhibited for a week from 11 April at the Akvárium Klub.

With its Pay with a Poem initiative, Julius Meinl aims to encourage everyone to put their phone aside and live in the moment for a minute, getting inspired to put poetry to paper. This year, they are collaborating with Tom Odell ofAnother Love fame, who makes a guest appearance in Julius Meinl's first global online series Chasing Poems, a story about the beautiful moments that can happen if we turn off the phone screen for a minute.

“I was attracted to the whole idea because I love coffeehouses, poetry and literature, and I like the idea of us all spending a little less time on our phones – and a little more time together drinking coffee. It’s the perfect fit for me,” says Tom Odell.
