Swappis is found somewhat far from the centre in Pesthidegkút, but if you have a little time on your hands and want to reduce your wardrobe, it is worth the ride. Swappis is a warehouse and store in one, filled with clothes, shoes and accessories.
Browsers are welcome to look around and buy anything from the store, but if you become a member, that is you bring in your own used clothes, everything is half-price.
An IKEA bag filled with clothes is worth about 22,500 forints, which is quite good considering jumpers cost 500 forints, coats 1,000-2,500, shirts and tops 1,000, blouses 2,000 and trousers 1,500. If you are not a member, those prices double.
If you do not want to spend all your credits at once, you can keep them for another time or give them to a friend. Note that if you bring something too used and not re-sellable, you might not be able to leave it. The clothes need to be in good condition.
The idea comes from Scandinavia. The founder, Tünde moved to Sweden in 2005, where she studied sustainability, spending her internship at the Sustainable Fashion Academy. She founded the first Swappis store in Uppsala, but when she moved back to Hungary last year, she founded one near Budapest, too.
Clothes can also be dropped off at Grund in District VIII, but for shopping, you will need to make the journey up to Pesthidegkút. To reach it, take tram 56 to Hűvösvölgy, then bus 64, 64A, 164, 257 or 264 to Templom utca (Kultúrkúria).
Raoul Wallenberg u. 1, 1136.
NEW OPENING HOURS: Monday-Friday 10-18, Saturday 10-14.
You can also buy through their online webshop, with a minimum purchase order of 3,500ft.
