The city’s main outdoor live-music venue, Budapest Park comes back to life with a strong line-up for 2018. Queens of the Stone Age, Billy Idol and The Bloody Beetroots are all among the international acts playing the alfresco concert destination this summer. For the May 3rd relaunch of the park, local acoustic folk-pop group Margaret Island hit the stage for a live show. Then until September, many more local and international ensembles will inspire crowds to hop aboard scenic tram 2 and let loose at this vibrantly refurbished hangout.

On May 5th, Hungarian hip-hop group Punnany Massif will be presenting the best songs from the band’s 15-year repertoire. Then through the summer months, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to check out revered ensembles from the local music scene, including Irie Maffia performing reggae and rock infused pop tunes and long-established metal combo Tankcsapda.

While Budapest Park has been known for its strong domestic line-up, this summer features an impressive list of international performers, as well. Scooter, Bullet For My Valentine, Rise Against, Alice in Chains and Jason Derulo are among the season’s highlights.

After a recent makeover, these parties will be even more vivid thanks to new design across the park. The stage decoration is now fused with playful portraits evoking the 1980s, works by talented Hungarian graphic artist Fanny Pápay. Meanwhile, updated information boards by graphic designer Kristóf Kőmíves support navigation across the facility spanning some 11,000 square metres. Near the entrance, the on-site store will offer a brand new seasonal merchandise, a collaboration of BP Shop and Budapest Park.

An elevated area is now equipped with funky furniture, serving as a groovy grandstand during concerts. A SzentkirályiParty Box by Hungary’s award-winning mineral-water brand and a Mastercard Skybox are also added within the same section.

Downtown-based Doblo wine bar is installing a kiosk to serve prime libations to guests. According to plans, the Telekom company will set up a VR sector, where digital glasses help you experience what it’s like to stand on stage, facing the concert crowd. Having debuted last year, the Nagyszünet chill zone for movie screenings will be available again this summer and from May 7th, acoustic performances will provide pleasant background music for those lounging here.

However, Budapest Park is not only for grown-ups. The first Sunday of each month will be dedicated to children, who can enjoy free concerts and puppet shows, join face-painting sessions or just play at the park’s Pöttömkert location. Then on May 13th, anyone can attend the Gardrób Community Fair for exchanging unwanted clothes for other vintage apparel offered at the Budapest Park bazaar.

Take tram 2 to reach the park from the city centre. There’s also a bike drop-off point available here for those who arrive by cycle.
