Behind Blitz Pizza Budapest is Dávid Liptay, once of the CityMatiné party series and Konyhakör before falling under the influence of Pizza Manufaktúra. He created the Davegherita, an instant hit and popular at gatherings, so much so that it became the signature item on the menu at this new venture.
While this follows the classic Naples tradition, using 00 flour, Dávid also borrows from American styles and his pizza base is among the best in town.
Dávid’s stall is just to the left of the bar counter, where the signature Davegherita (1,650 HUF) is created from an in-house combination of herbs, mozzarella, droplets of balsamic vinegar, rocket and Grana Padano, making it something close to a smooth Margarita. Under the name of Cheesus Christ, three types of cheese (taleggio, mozzarella, gorgonzola dolce) and a sprinkling tomatoes are placed in the wood-burning oven, after being given a few Irsai Olivér drops. It’s a great combination of flavours.
The Quasi Ungherese (HUF 2,250) is a combination of smoked sausage from Békéscsaba and caramelised red onion – a speciality which is spicily Hungarian, its fat not soaking through to the pizza. In addition, there is also a Mortadella variety (1,950 HUF), which combines black pepper, sliced fennel and balsamic droplets with the main feature. If you feel that it’s not quite enough to fill you up, you can ask for an extra topping of handmade buffalo mozzarella or fresh chili, at 400 forints and 200 forints respectively.
As for the long term, for as long as PONTOON remains in operation, the flame at Blitz Pizza Budapest will keep burning, giving you all the more reason to head down to the Danube for good music and that fabulous panorama.
