From Sunday, Budapest Beer Week will be showcasing nearly 200 brews at some 20 bars across the city. From Russia’s AF brew to Wild Beer from Somerset, ale aficionados can look forward to discovering a whole world of niche, craft brews, with many representatives from Hungary. The festival climaxes with two drink-all-you-can sessions at the Dürer Kert music venue on May 25th and 26th, with live shows and meet-the-brewer sessions. Tickets are sold for each of these two days, or that weekend, and also allow you to ‘raise hell all week long’. Cheers!

With the recent revolution in craft ales and brew bars in town, Budapest Beer Week could not be better timed. Venues such as Neked Csak Dezső!Monyo Tap House and Polyhistor have all opened in recent months, and all now play host to this week-long celebration of brewing.

As for the beers, you’ll find Mikònu from the Greek island of Mykonos – born of the Hungarian punk scene of yesteryear – as well as examples from the Garden Brewery in Zagreb, co-run by the UK music producer behind the famous club of the same name in Zadar. Look out, too, for Magic Rock beers from Huddersfield, at the forefront of the craft revolution in England. It goes without saying that Scotland’s Brewdog, now a huge global phenomenon, will also be represented.

You’ll also have the chance to sample the wares from more than a dozen Hungarian breweries, including Tuff Buzz, Fehér Nyúl and the award-winning Mad Scientist, all based in Budapest.

All convene at Dürer Kert for two crazy days next weekend, with tap takeovers and after parties.
