Between May 17th and 20th, Budapest’s discerning epicureans can enjoy a hedonistic hootenanny with hand-made dumplings, champagne and caviar. The Gourmet Festival is an annual alfresco extravaganza, celebrating prime food created by top restaurants in Hungary and beyond. This deluxe picnic event will also feature fine-quality meat for carnivores, creative sweets by renowned confectioners and top wines, all served at Buda's Millenáris Park. Besides, international star chefs will be preparing variations of renowned national treats on the spot. Exclusive lunch and dinner events are also available, registration required.

Champagne, caviar and Hungarian dumplings, sweet or savoury, are in the spotlight at the 2018 Gourmet Festival, a highly anticipated gastronomic event taking place at Buda's Millenáris Park. For the occasion, chef of the city’s two-Michelin-starred Onyx, will be creating staple Hungarian plum dumplings with a twist, while the Russian/global kitchen at acclaimed Arany Kaviár will be serving a whole range of caviar – with champagne, of course.

During the event, the country’s best hostelries will be taking care of the drinks to match the food. Meanwhile, top Hungarian connoisseurs join forces to create a four-course meal and instead of wine, beer or champagne, each dish will be paired with vegetable and fruit juices. A similarly creative co-operation will be performed by a selection of Warsaw-based eateries that possess Bib Gourmand recommendations for the current Michelin guides: these restaurants now combine efforts to introduce contemporary Polish gastronomy to Hungary’s capital.

But you’ll also find mouth-watering creations by Latin America’s best female chef Kamilla Seidler, while Michelin-awarded Heinz Reitbauer from Vienna’s venerated Steirereck will be demonstrating the versatility of mushrooms through five different dishes made of this main ingredient. Pioneer of contemporary Turkish cuisine, Maksut Askar, will also be here to present Anatolian gastronomic delights and wines.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, dumplings will come in all shapes and forms, filled with cold cottage cheese or served with creamy white chocolate. To celebrate 160 years of the Gerbeaud Confectionery, Budapest’s top dessert destination will offer Cacao Barry Or Noir, a newly designed chocolate creation for guests to sample.

Admission to the Gourmet Festival comes with a wine glass, a small serving of street food and a ticket valid for beer and wine samples.
