A no-nonsense restaurant presents traditional treats within a modern milieu. Found on focal Sas utca, a short walk from St. Stephen’s Basilica, A-Pecsenyés is among the newest hangouts in a neighborhood mostly dominated by high-priced eateries. However, dining out at this recently inaugurated bistro focusing on Hungarian food won’t break the bank.
Come here to feast on meat-heavy delicacies, freshly fried, boiled or roasted. On the menu, you’ll spot chicken drumsticks covered in breadcrumbs (1,200 HUF), palatable pork knuckle (from 1,500 forints), goulash (600 HUF), of course, and even fish (1,300 forints). Don’t miss the classic Magyar Mátrai borzaska (1,300 HUF), named after its crispy coating of grated potatoes, eggs and flour. This deep-fried dish is then topped with sour cream and shredded cheese. Many of the ingredients come from countryside farmers.
Dishes can be selected from a food counter displaying all sorts of marinated meats, sides and salads. Meanwhile, a rôtisserie adds a tasty spin to grilled chicken. There are paprika pickles too, while desserts include strudel-filled with sour cherries. Dishes when ready are served on plastic trays, including the restaurant’s signature pecsenye roast meat (1,300 HUF). Pottages and two-course lunch specials (1,300 HUF) complete the menu on weekdays, making the place ideal for regulars and first-time visitors.
Featuring a spacious interior and a heated terrace area, A-Pecsenyés is a destination for leisurely dining. The restaurant is open every day from 10am until 10pm.
