Every few months, a “revolutionary” culinary creation makes its debut on the Hungarian food scene. From lángos burgers to ice cream-filled chimney cakes to cheese-stuffed donut balls, borrowed and original ideas appear one after the other in Budapest, and often anticipate a few weeks of buzz before we move onto the next jaw-dropping novelty. In some special cases, however, innovative treats turn out to be better than expected.
Since its opening in 2014, Wiener Salon has been a strong point of Corvin Quarter due to its high-quality products and its heartfelt, welcoming service. The confectionery isn’t known for jumping on every other bandwagon, so when a new product appears behind its counters, we know it’s the real deal. Such is their summertime treat that comes in two versions in the size of plum dumplings.
Wiener Scoops come in two variations, among which we tasted the “classic” one with vanilla ice cream filled with delicious peach jam – which we can usually find in Wiener Salon’s carnival doughnuts – and coated with crushed peanuts. The other scoop features plum jam and a coating of ground poppy seeds. In both cases, the refreshing, cold fruit jam and crisp outer layer form a delicate balance that we recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth, costing just 410 forints per scoop.
