Beginning today, mini-concerts of varied musical genres are continually being offered at monumental venues around Budapest, all the way through August 18th. We present info about some of the recurring shows happening at diverse city landmarks where you can catch some free entertainment all summer long, including St. Stephen’s Basilica, the Palace of Arts, and the courtyard of Vajdahunyad Castle.

Zenélő Budapest (“Musical Budapest”) is a series of nearly600free open-air concerts, to be held at various landmark venues over three months between May 26th and August 18th. These concerts include a brass band in hussar outfits, a group of woodwind musicians with an opera singer, and a string quartet in period costumes, all playing alfresco amid dramatic settings of the Magyar metropolis. For example, in the courtyard of City Park’s Vajdahunyad Castle, anyone can enjoy Transylvanian folk music with a solo vocalist every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10am and 10:30am; a saxophone ensemble plays nostalgic tunes a the entrance to Várkert Bazaar every Sunday at 2:30pm and 3pm; and a jazz band plays classics in front of the Műcsarnok every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11am and 11:30am.

These concerts will each be 20 minutes long, and other venues include beautiful locations such as the Musical Fountain on Margaret Island, the square in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica, and at the Great Market Hall. Meanwhile, in addition to the recurring concerts, Zenélő Budapest features many special one-time live performances by renowned Hungarian artists – including Ferenc Snétberger, Csaba Ökrös, and Béla Lakatos Szakcsi – on Sundays from 11am to 1pm at Várkert Bazaar.
