For Budapest residents, Jégbüfé is a legend: the history of the confectionery dates back to 1952, and since then it became a place of pilgrimage for those with a sweet tooth, not to mention the meeting place for countless first dates.
Jégbüfé’s continued success inspired the launch of a second location in Buda just a few years ago, but sadly, the original unit at Ferenciek Square had to be closed in August to make way for the complete renovation of the Paris Court. However, Jégbüfé soon opened a replacement shop just an ice-cream cone’s throw away from the first location on Petőfi Sándor Street, and now another Jégbüfé is open at Harminckettesek Square, much to the delight of District VIII locals.
The confectionery isn’t much different than the previous locations; we get the same products with the usual quality (although the more modern interior makes the desserts feel more innovative, as well), and thankfully, the prices didn’t change, either.
Some things did change, however: for example, the strange and often incomprehensible payment method of the original shop is now more straightforward, and instead of offering only a large standing space, guests can actually sit down at numerous tables and chairs.
The location seems like a good idea, since the new unit is easily accessible both from Blaha Lujza Square and Astoria, and even commuters of the 4-6 trams can drop by for a slice of Black Forest cake on their way home. We’re happy to see this living-legend sweet shop carry on with this new incarnation into the future!
