BP Clothing is one of the most popular street-wear brands among young Hungarians and backpackers. Caps with the classic BP logo are a symbol of cool; the brand even designed official shirts for the European tour of the Wu-Tang-Clan, and their latest winter collection titled "Back to the Woods” came out less than a month ago. But, their designers never rest, and now, just in time for Christmas, they present a new collection inspired by the Hungarian cult film Cat City.
The designers behind the BDPST brand contacted the creator of the characters in the animated film, Béla Ternovszky, personally and dreamed up the clothes and accessories together. On these unique pieces there is secret agent Grabowski, trumpeter Lazy Dick, and the gangster rats: Cookie, Buddy and Billy. The local clothing brand has put the popular characters in a new, urban context.
"I always strived to work on films that are fun in the production process as well, and impossible to get bored of. The script ended up in my hands because others said: this is Béla’s world. The test screenings of the film already suggested that the audience will like the characters, so from the first showing, we considered the option of secondary applications. If we look at it this way, BP Clothing’s decision to feature Cat City’s characters in their new collection as a collaboration with the original creators reveals their excellent business sensibility!” Béla Ternovszky told us.
The collection’s designers present Macskafogó Edition in the frameworks of a large-scale event on 18 December. "Our secret weapon for this year’s Christmas season is very close to our heart: we designed Macskafogó Edition hand in hand with Béla Ternovszky. The collection does not only mean a new level in the brand’s life, but also intends to bring a new perspective into the domestic fashion industry. It is a great honour to work together with an artist of such caliber. We would like to create a worthy tribute to this unrivaled masterpiece, which is one of the brightest stars of Hungarian animation, with meticulous care and high quality materials. BDPST would also like to steer a little attention to domestically produced animated films by reinterpreting Cat City. This is an existing, living profession, with great professionals. The collection will debut on the 19th of December in the BP Shops,” the artistic director of BP Clothing, Péter Jakab, told us.
BP Clothing’s Macskafogó Edition will debut on the 18th of December at Anker’t. The event’s guest of honor will be Béla Ternovszky, who will tell the audience about the birth of the film and the creation of the collection. There'll also be a panel discussion, including a discussion on the present and future of the Hungarian animation industry. At the end of the evening, there will be a screening of the inspirational cult film, followed by a standing reception and a DJ set.
The Cat City collection will be available in the BP Shops from 19 December.
