As Széchenyi Square’s newest party venue, BADGIRLZ is establishing its identity in line with the movie Coyote Ugly, featuring nicely ironed shirts and elaborate tattoos. In the self-proclaimed bar-club we can meet people fawning over girls dancing on the bartop, all amid tattoo decorations and genuine rock ‘n’ roll – all from a safe distance. Genuine hard-core tattooed bikers definitely will not be regulars here, but they do not seem to be part of the target audience, anyway.

BADGIRLZ is now open at Széchenyi István Square, at the Pest side of the Chain Bridge. The design seems to be inspired by the world of tattoos, the atmosphere by the movie Coyote Ugly, and the style by the recreational habits of the upper-middle class (aka rich people).

The place caused quite a stir even on the day of the unofficial opening, especially when the very good-looking female staff all jumped on the bartop and executed a full-fledged dance show. This was not the specialty of the opening party, but it will be one of the main attractions of the venue – they plan to offer three such shows, presenting a performance every 60 minutes, although these will mainly be determined by the atmosphere. However, we can say for sure that the girls will be the parties’ pin-up heart chakra.

The main motif of the interior is built around tattoos. Pictures of wild girls adorn the walls, and on the tables we can see works of tattoo artists. On one of the walls they project a tattooing process, and the logo of the place itself, the BADGIRLZ sign, is floating in a vortex of tattooed arms.

The creator of the place’s image is Miklós Kiss, the Hungarian graphic designer whose name can also be connected to the images of several cool downtown places, as well as the Golden Roach exhibition that was held in the Kunsthalle. Our personal favorite was the bathroom, where instead of the boring clear design, we can see the girls of BADGIRLZ from a rather nice angle.

In terms of selection, BADGIRLZ offers vast amounts of drinks and a few simple dishes – the latter are prepared by chef Sztyopa. On the menu we can find the Badburger (2,650 HUF), quesadilla (2,350 HUF), Mad Hot Dog (1,450 HUF), chips with dips (1,450 HUF) and grilled chicken breast (2,450 HUF).

As for the drinks, the cocktail selection is endless – in addition to the classics, they also make their own variations. There is a drink deal as well: whoever orders ten BADGIRLZ kamikaze shots gets a chip for the BADGIRLZ pinball machine, which has the same name as the venue.

Despite the inked design, we do not believe that all tattooed people of the city will now become regulars here; the skin-drawings will probably go as wild as butterflies on wrists, nonfigurative forms hidden under V-neck t-shirts, or slutty lower-waist motifs. According to the owner, they welcome everyone – even over-tattooed rockers – on the condition that they can behave normally. Naturally, the term “normal” is quite relative, and we can only hope that caps and moderately worn-out sneakers fall into this category. We will see, but one thing is sure: BADGIRLZ, despite its name, is definitely not a motorcycle bar, but a trendy downtown nightclub.

We suspect that BADGIRLZ will mainly attract men, and will possibly be a venue for friendly beer nights and stag parties; however we doubt that women or couples will ever set foot in the club. But, we could always be wrong.
