There's no one on this planet who doesn't melt from their mom's delicious, nostalgia-inducing cooking. Anyu (Mom), Buda's newest soup-plus-sandwich spot, offers something along those lines, but with a youthful twist. From the outside, Anyu looks like an anarchist punk store, but on the inside, it's a homely haven of soups, sandwiches, salads, hummus, quiche, cakes, milkshakes and lemonade. We'd like to pack the whole place and take it home.

Moms aren't only known for their endless and unconditional love, but also for their masterful cooking skills. Combining the aforementioned traits, a sandwich-soup spot appeared in Buda (not

Captain Planet) under the name Anyu (if you haven't guessed already, it means mom in English). Oh, and the owner is indeed a mom.

As you enter Anyu (no pun intented), the interior reinterpreted by Dóra Fónagy will playfully mess with your senses and make you believe for a second that you've just stepped into someone's kitchen. As for the exterior, it is spiced up with the creations of Richárd Orosz.

Now that we're through with the ever-important design, let us take a look at the highlights of the selection: carrot cream soup with ginger (450 Ft), beetroot soup with apple and rosemary (450 Ft), English chicken sandwich with celery (650 Ft), French camembert-chili strawberry jam sandwich (650 Ft), goat cheese sandwich with ruccola (650 Ft), different homemade cakes (400-550 Ft), homemade lemonade (400 Ft) and hummus with harissa (490 Ft).

We tried an English chicken sandwich with celery, another sandwich packed with Asian-style ribs, and a carrot cream soup with ginger. Laci, our photographer, who's basically been to all Budapestian eateries from burger joints to Michelin-starred sanctuaries of luxurious cuisine, said that the English sandwich had a unique feel to it thanks to the celery, the soup was delicious, and the Asian sandwich was bursting with special flavors (which, as we learned later on, are the direct consequences of confiting the ribs in a concotion of coconut milk, ginger, lemon grass, and chili sauce).

Everything is fresh, homemade, and free of additives. It's also good news that Anyu is vegetarian-compatible, gluten-free friendly, welcomes bikes and dogs, and givesstudents 10% discount, so she's really like everyone's mom.

Save for five sandwiches, the selection isn't set in stone: soups vary each day, there are 3-4 weekly sandwich offers, the cakes are upgraded with minor tweaks, the French quiche always tastes different, and the bread is sometimes olive-, then tomato flavored.

The only negative aspect of Anyu is its size, as more than 5 people at the same time is a crowd inside, but there's a couple of solutions: the spacious terrace (open on sunny days) and takeaway.
