As we have already told you Budapest is about to give home to yet another great venue. The venue, right next to the Basilica, on the corner of Hercegprímás and Arany János Street categorizes itself as a 21st century place, but what do they mean exactly? Is it a club? Is it a restaurant? Is it a bar? Is it a pub? It is kind of hard to explain but we will try our best.
First of all the locality of the venue is rather suggesting we might say; trafiq is located in the Budapest Soho area. Its competition or let’s just rather say its neighbours include DiVino, Innio, Ötkert, Creol and so on. It is rather likely that the guests of these places will become the guests of number 18 on Hercegprímás street. Why would this happen, you might ask. Well most likely because of the wide range of great alcoholic beverages trafiq has to offer. The cocktail offer is just as wide and overwhelming as in Boutiq'Bar. Of course the cocktail list is just one thing – how these cocktails are prepared and by whom they are prepared by is a completely different thing. The owners say that they would like to get to know their guests and they would also like to find out what kind of drinks do the guests prefer.
The appearance of the place is two-folded. One of the interior concepts include the designs of Miklós Kiss; his typographic wordplays can light up the strict cocktail sessions and we can have some fun while we try to solve the small, funny games. The decorated walls, the logos and the overall typographic design really fit into the European standards. The other concept is the result of the work of Péter Szendrő and Kristóf Pataricza. The duo did what they do best; they mixed the industrial design with unique tiles, with special glass decorations and a one of a kind brass bar. The interior design is eclectic and it is not a bad thing, especially when we take into consideration that the headroom of the bar is not that high. The playlists will include bootleg songs mostly, so the musical success is guaranteed.
The music in trafiq is not discriminating against any genres but the majority of the songs basically fit in the mainstream.
But how do they position themselves? Basically they focus on the Bourgeois Bohême (also being referred to as bobo) especially with their prices (just as many other places did in the past two years). But do we have any bobos in Budapest? The answer is yes, we do but only a few of them. It is not easy to remain bohemian for a wealthy person. In many cases, especially in Hungary, these wealthy people can easily transform into blokes with upturned collars and with spiky shiny shoes. Fortunately the next generation is already growing up so we will have real bobos soon, who spend their cash with style. If things will turn out to be all right members of this new generation will fill up trafiq and they will accompany the intellectuals from the older generations.
They opened last weekend with a VIP party and from last Sunday on the place is open for the public. trafiq is a place for those who enjoy the bright, shiny lights of the Basilica, the mild mood of the nearby Ötkert and for those who enjoy places like the Hajós street and the 7th district in general. It’s an ideal place for Budapest citizens and for foreigners who enjoy great drinks and even better fine-quality dishes that could easily compete with the offers of Pomo D’oro. The best choice for the ones have no idea where to go after having a few glasses of wine in local bars and who enjoy assimilating with different age groups.
