The brand
The name of the brand reflects on the connections between femininity and masculinity. The first part of the name, MEIKA has a pleasant jingle and it represents the qualities that can be associated with femininity. The tenderness and the gracefulness are combined with creative ideas. The KAWA is about the masculinity. It is determined, it is dynamic, distinctive and it follows a well-defined concept. The unisex MEI KAWA pieces represent clothes that blend the strict masculine structures with playful and airy femininity.
MEI KAWA is heading towards naturalness; the pieces are body-friendly, they are made with special tailoring techniques, they are wearable and sensible. The brand is characterized by the minimalistic, clear-cut shapes as well as the Northern and Asian cultures.
The Rumble collectionThe 2012 pre-fall collection is inspired by the ‘ghetto-romantic’ mood, but the items were transformed into chic and elegant pieces by adapting a more elegant style. This is how the iconic bomber jackets became bomber shirts and vests, and this is how the short hood-styled sweatpants became linen trousers. The main characteristics that define the brand are still present – sharp edges, clear shapes, organic materials and sensible simplicity. The dominant colours include blue, black, rusty brown, gray and white. The trademark press-studs of MEI KAWA are also present in the collection. With the help of these press-studs different pieces can be easily layered so the outfits can be combined and transformed, new looks can be created.
The campaign for the collection was created by photographer Péter Henz and creative director Angie Pálmai. The model is Tamás Keresztes, actor of the József Katona Theatre. He is the perfect embodiment of the cheeky and chic MEI KAWA man, who pays attention to elaborate details and who is looking for simplicity and uniqueness at the same time.
