The
Moscow City Ballet
will enchant Budapest audiences with two performances of
Swan Lake
,
at 3pm and 7 pm
on 23 November 2014. The 60-minute show was directed by former Artistic Director
Victor Smirnov-Golovanov
, who passed away last year, and the costumes were dreamed up by
Elisaveta Dvorkina
.
The company was founded in 1988 by Russian choreographer Victor Smirnov-Golovanov. Their first performance took place in Seoul, South Korea. The
Moscow City Ballet
is currently the world’s most regularly touring
ballet company
. In more than 25 years they have performed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Israel, the United Kingdom and, of course, Russia. The principal aim of Victor Smirnov-Golovanov was to showcase ballet, an integral part of Russian national heritage, to the widest audience possible. The company is famous for its high-quality performances, as well as for the fact that its members have been trained in line with the classical Russian school of ballet.
Their
unique style
has been developed thanks to the efforts of the late artistic director and his wife, Ballet Mistress Ludmila Nerubasenko, both of whom have strove for excellence in rehearsals and shows alike. The repertoire of the company includes the classics, among others: The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty performed to the score of
Tchaikovsky
, along with Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet set to music by Prokofiev. Other ballets of special note are Don Quixote, danced to the music of Ludwig Minkus, and Giselle.
