Hip-hop turns 40
, so
Park
celebrates the anniversary with workshops, exhibitions and with concert of east-coast legend,
KRS One
- who is also responsible for one of hip-hop''s most famous song,
Sound Of Da Police
!
Who is
KRS One
?
A Bronx-based rapper, producer, activist, teacher and preacher of Jamaican origin, a keeper, protector and
carrier of the flame of hip-hop
. He has been in the industry for
three decades
, his life is about hip-hop, his lifework is far more than just music, each and every word and act by him is closely linked to the well-being of the culture associated with the genre.

So far, he has released
twelve solo-albums, and one of the most oustanding hip-hop songs of all times Sound of da Police is linked to his name
, too. It is not an exaggeration to say: there is no East Coast-artist truly dedicated to the genre who is not in touch with him, or at least deeply inspired by him and his lifework.

Before his first solo-album,
Return of the Boom Bap
, with the hit song Sound of da Police was released, the adventureous rapper had been a member of Boogie Down Productions, within the compass of which five studio-albums and a live album had been released.

Througout his carreer, besides his own works, he has teamed up with a number of rap-geniuses of his own calibre, supported young new talents, and the milestones of his incredible success in the shiny field of hip-hop are proven by nine Gold and seven Platinum plaques.
Six years ago he has received the Lifetime Achievement Award at BET Hip-Hop Gala, and in 2009, he has been awarded with the Living Legend Award at Urban Music Awards.

KRS-One was galvanized into action and formed the Stop the Violence Movement in order to stand up against the violence in Black American communities, and has published several books, for example the famous work titled The Gospel of Hip Hop: The First Instrument; moreover, he has even set up a sacred place called Temple of Hip Hop.
