Trafó Gallery
starts it’s new 2015 season with introducing the uncanny art of the Czech
Josef Bolf
(1971). The solo
exhibiton
, which isn’t going to be a retrospective, provides an overview on the artist’s oeuvre. The show features large scale drawings, paintings and the newest animation film of Bolf entitled
Heavy Planet.
The distinctive feature of Bolf’s painterly illustrative art, which is also derived from the visuality of cartoons, is that he constructs his motives out of universal childhood traumas. The fluid figures of the lost teenagers populate a grey, suffocating, depressing and gloomy universe, which is built upon the pillars of self-destruction and death.
Josef Bolf
graduated at the University of Fine Arts in Prague, but studied also in Stockholm and Stuttgart. He had milestone exhibtions in the Rudolfinum, Prague, huntkastner artworks, Prague, DOX, Prague, and the Brno House of Arts. His works were also featured in exhibitons in the United States at APEXART, New York and at Hudson Valley Center for Contemaporary Art.
