The 2016 programme for Müpa

Chinese New Year
concerts provides an introduction to different regions of the enormous country, and the traditional music of their various ethnic groups played on traditional instruments that are still used to this day, while also illustrating the ever closer points of contact between Chinese and Western music.
The Spring Festival Overture is associated with the people of Shaanxi province, and Hero of the Mountain is from Guanxi, also known as the 'land of heroes'. The composition Train Arriving at Dong Village reflects the joie de vivre of the Dong people, while the melodic Daling is a musical snapshot of the country's Korean minority. The Butterfly Lovers Fantasia was created by combining elements of symphony music and traditional Chinese folk opera. The audience will also get a taste of the symbiosis with Chinese musical theatre (for example, in the Great Wall Capriccio), as well as a wide-ranging look at the various instruments, which are often unfamiliar to European eyes and ears.
