The
Advent in Budapest
Winter Festival will be held for the second time in
Deák Square
next to
City Hall
Park (Városháza park). The capital’s most beautiful and most family oriented Advent event awaits visitors
from 28 November to 31 December 2014
.
In addition to the unique
handcrafts
and delicious snacks on offer at the
Christmas Bazaar
, cultural programs have been organized at the Glass House set up in the Square. This year a 200-square-meter
skating rink
for children will be open every day from 11 am to 7 pm free of charge.

City Hall Park (Városháza Park) is located in the immediate vicinity of Deák Square and is transformed into Budapest’s most beautiful
park in lights
during this holiday season. The main attraction this year is the huge
Advent wreath
, whose first candle will be lit by Mayor István Tarlós on the first Sunday of Advent at the opening ceremony. At the same time the holiday lights of Budapest will be turned on throughout the city by the Budapesti Dísz-és Közvilágitási Kft.

The heated
Glass House
is located in the central part of the Square and is arranged as a Christmas story room. On weekday evenings, art schools, music schools and amateur groups will perform their Christmas shows here, while children’s programs, nativity plays, handcrafts, sport presentations, puppet theatre, festive candle lighting, public meetings, jazz and world-music concerts will be held on weekends.

This year they’re once again organizing
the wait for St. Nicholas
, on 13 and 14 December the weekend of students from beyond the borders will be held, and candle donations will be collected on site on the fourth Sunday of Advent when the candle of Hungarians will be lit. Among other charity activities, a teddy bear collection will be held for underprivileged children. At the invitation of the FŐKERT Nonprofit Zrt., as a public art installation next to the Glass House, groups of kindergarten and school children will decorate close to 100 stylized pine trees in an environmentally friendly way. Every Friday new works will be added to the pine forest. The organizers will photograph the works and upload them to the Festival’s Facebook page where the work that receives the most audience votes will win valuable prizes.
