Bocuse d’Or is a world-class cooking competition, where the best chefs from 24 countries present their skills. This year, the Hungarian team returned from Lyon, in France, with double success. Hungary received a special award for our poster, and Gábor Molnár's team finished in 13th place.

The competition finals, also known as the Oscars of cooking, was held on 27 - 28 January in Lyon, within the framework of the SIRHA trade exhibition. After the regional finals in Stockholm, the Hungarian team managed to secure a place as one of the world's 24 gastronomical super-powers. The Hungarian team proved that Hungary truly belongs in the field of fine dining. Norway finished first in the competition, followed by the US and Sweden.

Gábor Molnár and his helper, Ádám Pohner finished in 13th place, which is an important acknowledgement of Hungary's domestic gastronomy. According to Zoltán Hamvas, the president of the Bocuse d’Or Academy, this performance demonstrates that it is time to put Hungary on the gastronomic world map. The central motif of the meat dish prepared by the Hungarian team was the Gömböc, which was used to symbolise Hungarians’ artistic spirit and creativity. The competition did not only reward culinary performance – Gábor Molnár's introductory poster received a special award, which was decided by a public vote. The poster was made by Hamu és Gyémánt, whose name can also be linked to the winning poster of Tamás Széll in 2013.

Next time, the best chefs of the world will meet and compete in Budapest. The regional finals, coupled with the SIHRA exhibition, will be organised by the Hungexpo in May 2016.
