among turn-of-the-century villas and shaded trees on Gellért Hill, Chez Matild feels like a chic rural French bakery. Thanks to its
French owners, classic baguettes and
croissants are plentiful and delicious, but you’ll also find rare
delicacies such as pain au chocolat, madeleines and financiers at the counter. In addition to rye, spelled
and semi-brown breads, they offer daily specials like bread with sun-dried tomatoes
or rosemary. On Fridays, Chez Matild treats visitors to a plethora of the fine
Hungarian braided brioche, kalács.
