While living in Budapest’s urban jungle, actual greenery is often scarce in our everyday existence – but fortunately, we can rectify that by bringing a bit of genuine jungle into our homes. In this roundup, we present five Hungarian designers who create unique and creative plant decorations that can easily fit with the average city dweller’s lifestyle, all of which require little care and fit in small spaces, but make a big impact by adding a lot of vivaciousness to any room.

Flow

Fanni Molnár makes flower decorations for weddings, as well as florariums with various plants and unique plant decor. She currently has two product groups available, but she’s working on developing even more that will soon be available. Her “flowRariums” are small plants in terrariums that love light and moisture, among which there’s a complete collection. The Livingroom series features flora that might seem familiar from our grandparents’ parlor, the corridors of public institutions, or the waiting room of the doctor’s office. Alternatively, the pieces of the series Flowing Gardens are essentially living pictures: these are interesting wall decorations made with various bromeliads that only need some light and regular spraying to survive.

This brand’s goal is to bring some childish playfulness and creativity into our homes. PLAY PLANTS shakes up our everydays and surprises us with environmentally conscious plant decorations based on unusual ideas. In addition to using old porcelain pots and glass jars, they also transform plastic toy animals into plant holders. The pieces of the collection ReWood are made from branches and logs that fell during pruning works or after storms. The brand also sells stained-glass terrariums and miniature terrariums that can be worn as jewelry. The founder, Barbara Dénes, not only makes nature-inspired products, but also holds workshops to teach others how to make their own terrariums.

Enter a world of tiny, magical gardens sealed away in small glass vessels. This brand’s carefully created bottle terrariums require very little care, as they exist within a closed ecosystem. The size of the containers holding these unique terrariums ranges from half-liter jugs to 50-liter jars – often old, special bottles. The plants that are put inside often include rarities that would not survive an average room’s climate, but which thrive inside a terrarium. The target group of these florariums is rather broad; the creators recommend the products to “plant freaks, collectors, single travelers, bachelors without a green thumb, cat owners, children, and those looking for unique home decor”.

RisoPlant

RisoPlant defines itself as a hybrid enterprise that deals not only with unique plants, pots, and terrariums, but also with self-designed RISO prints. Its founders are passionate about both the urban lifestyle and a green environment, and are trying to unite the two in their products. In addition to offering creative and environmentally conscious decor items, they also aim to incorporate nature into the immediate environment of city dwellers, whether through live plants or nature-inspired stationery. Our favorites are the seeds sold in self-designed sachets and the geometric concrete planters, embellished with some pastel paint.

Bublab

Architect Ágnes Bubla started her own project at the end of last year, in which she makes various plant decorations within regular and hanging terrariums. In these glass gardens, succulents, special lichens, and mosses create their own microcosmos, and thus require little care: the various layers not only ensure suitable moisture, but also indicate when it’s time for watering. In addition to the florariums, Ági’s favorites are the hanging terrariums with various types of tillandsia plants, from which she makes wreaths and decorations.
