The classic one: Római Part

Római Part is a popular place for long strolls on the Danube shore – especially among dog owners. The reason is simple: you can let your puppy paddle basically anywhere along the riverbank without having to worry about water depth or out-of-nowhere currents. While your furry friend is having the time of his life, you can follow them into the river and go kayaking or swimming, or you can choose the slothful approach and just chill out on the shore with a delicious burger or a serving of iconic fried fish on the bank, watching the canines chase after ducks in the water.

Pest waterfront at Árpád Bridge

There’s a relatively hidden spot near Árpád Bridge that stretches a few hundred meters along the Pest waterfront, where locals love to hang out, sunbathe, drink wine, and also provide some beach time for their four-legged buddies. Despite the roaring traffic of Árpád Bridge above, this place is somewhat serene. It is easily accessible, has shallow waters, and there’s a store nearby where you can get all necessary picnic accessories.

The popular one: Lágymányosi Bay

Kopaszi Dam, a tidy riverfront park in South Buda, is one of the best spots in the entire city to chill out, but it has a no-dogs-allowed policy – which is a disgrace and extremely baffling, to say the least. No need to hang your head, though, because south of nearby Café Del Rio lies a small segment of the riverbank where dog owners gather in the afternoon to set their lovable beasts free for a while – and also to chat over a few beers or a bottle of wine.

Pesterzsébet

Because downtown Budapest is not necessarily an ideal spot for puppy beach time, we went all the way to the outskirts to find the perfect location for taking your dog for a swim. And find it we did – just a few minutes from the Pesterzsébet Felső HÉV station at Gubacsi Bridge. It’s undoubtedly popular among locals, but is a bit remote for downtowners.

When it’s not hosting the Sziget Festival, Óbuda Island is usually as empty as a blues singer’s pocket (though it now has an open-air cinema) – which is truly a shame, because the northern tip of the island is well-suited for pooches to have a swim while you laze around on a plaid blanket and reap the benefits of a fully-equipped picnic basket with your significant other.
