Some people prefer jogging alone, lost in their own thoughts – we do not recommend this compilation to them, but for those who like running with others, read on. We selected five running clubs operating in Budapest or around the capital for those who see running as a community experience, or who want to indulge in their passion within an organized structure.

Nike Running Club

This running club is in operation for seven years now, and welcomes sports enthusiasts five times a week, from Monday to Friday between 5pm and 8pm. Only a free registration is required for us to enjoy their services (such as an exercise plan drawn up by coaches). On Wednesdays, they hold larger events when the organizers provide free changing and shower facilities, and hold more sessions with the help of coaches, as well. The shoe-test bus can be found on Margaret Island several times a week, too, where we can try new shoes and even take them on a test run around the island. Some well-known athletes are usually invited to the Wednesday workouts.

Városmajor Running Club

The goal of Városmajor Running Club is to provide an organized framework for nearby citizens to enjoy active exercise, and to promote running in general. The club regularly occupies the colorful stripes of the running track of the recently refurbished Városmajor sports facilities. On weekdays (usually on Tuesdays) after work, we can test shoes from 6pm, followed by exercise, which can be attended both by beginner-level runners and those who already have a few marathons behind them.

Főnix Running Club

Founded in 2014, this club promotes running but also covers popular hiking locations of Budakeszi as well, which can also be great running routes. Budakeszi is a perfect location for exercise: runners can choose between countless hiking trails and paths, they just have to discover them. For the sake of adventurers, the club tries to roam numerous unknown (or lesser-known) routes, as well. Membership does not come with any obligations, but if we want to run in the colors of Budakeszi, we can buy a Főnix t-shirt.

Kvázibárki

Translating to “Quasi anyone, the strange name of this club is rather appropriate – after all, quasi anyone can, say, get up early on a Tuesday morning for a run before work. Members run in groups of differently paces, and the exercise is helped by pace runners, but we can join them at a slower pace, as well. They usually start their activity at 6:30am, so it is worthwhile to get a good night’s sleep beforehand. The group plods their way through the downtown area, and sometimes covers 18 kilometers in a single session.

Óbuda Running Circle

A few enthusiastic amateur runners founded the association named the Óbuda Running Circle back in 1999. In addition to organized competitions, the members regularly attended other domestic and foreign events, and many of them achieved remarkable results not only at amateur level, but on a national and international level, as well. However, due to financial and organizational difficulties, the association disbanded in 2009 – and yet the majority of the members and their passion for running remained, and in the summer of 2010, the Óbuda Running Circle Leisure and Competitive Sports Association was founded under new leadership. Their goal is to popularize exercise and a sporty lifestyle among the district’s residents. For this purpose, they organize weekly workout sessions and competitions.
