The
“road movie”
label, which has no equivalent term either in French or Hungarian), may have originated in 60s America, but the genre itself is not American. Pierrot le Fou, the
French
movie made by
Jean-Luc Godard
and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Anna Karina, who in the story set out from Paris toward the Mediterranean, is a precursor of the American “road movie” genre. Godard, one of the greatesr rejuvenators of film, definitely deserves this praise.

Since 1965 the “road movie” label has been preferred by French film directors, the road being the metaphor of escape, adventurous travels and freedom… This series is an opportunity for the audience to roam thousands of kilometres with the great names of French cinema:
Godard, Depardieu, Karina, Moreau, Adjani, Blier…
