A brand new
contemporary art event series
will kick off at the end of April in
Budapest
, at several locations in regional Hungary and abroad. Taking place over six weeks,
OFF-Biennále
awaits contemporary art lovers at several dozen venues with the most exciting representatives of the art scene.
OFF-Biennále
is a truly unique initiative in Hungarian cultural life: started by a handful of experts without any institutional or financial support, the event series aims to involve hundreds of participants in order to create the foundations of an independent and versatile fine arts community. OFF has come together with the help of international and private donations and the work of volunteers, and is fully independent of the state’s cultural infrastructure, receiving no state funds whatsoever.

OFF is a self-organizing movement based on the co-operation of communities. The various projects are implemented independently, but under the shared OFF “umbrella”. Galleries are the primary venues of OFF, but studios, properties currently out of use, private flats, clubs, ad hoc locations and public places will also host some of the OFF events.

Visitors will have countless contemporary artworks and events to choose from, including paintings, photos, statues, installations, experimental films, YouTube videos, one of a kind graphic art pieces, widely distributed fanzines, music performances and sound installations, traditional exhibitions and public space projects. Along with stars of the international contemporaray art scene, the legendary neo-avante-garde artists of the 60s and 70s and Hungarian artists regularly presenting at major international exhibitions, the youngest generations of creative geniuses will get the chance to showcase their works.
