The
KÉK – Contemporary Architecture Center
organizes the
Nyitva!
(“Open!”)
Festival
for the second time. During the festival,
unrented retail spaces in Budapest will open
and get filled with life
for one month
. The long-abandoned stores are revived, revealing their hidden potential – and measurably increasing their rentability. The newcomers receive organizational development training beforehand, and will be able to experience the benefits and challenges of maintaining one’s own business in the test operation period.
During this one month, both the owners and the newcomers can test their cooperation without a greater commitment, so that subsequently they can make an informed choice on a way forward. In addition to them, the festival has another participant that gains indisputable benefits:
Budapest.
The organizers believe that a city where the public can use and benefit from the neglected resources is also a sustainable city, where community, knowledge and creativity get their space.
