documentary
about how the dead bodies of
Muslim immigrants
return to their homeland - and why. A film about this new kind of
internation migration.
Every year
thousands of bodies of Turkish immigrants
are flown back from Europe to small villages they had left long ago. These flights are well organized and go unnoticed by ordinary airline passengers.
Flight Number 884 - Returning Home
is a film about the wishes and desires of
Muslim immigrants
. It follows the dead body of a Muslim on its
last journey
from Vienna to a graveyard in the south of Turkey. It also accompanies members of the
Turkish community in Austria
, visiting the protagonists in their homes, at work, at graveyards and mosques; it goes with them to Turkish markets and restaurants. Lives full of conflict, between the old and new homes, between the older and the younger generations.
