It was only a few decades ago when around 40 Gypsy-music bands regularly played live music across various restaurants along Budapest’s Grand Boulevard during the evening hours. Gypsy musicians have been esteemed members of local communities across the Carpathian Basin, passing down their artistic skills through generations, but this vibrant tradition gets less attention in our modern age.

To support and promote traditional Gypsy-music performances, the Hungarian Heritage House cultural center, in joint collaboration with the Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister, have launched the Fiddlers of Budapest program to provide a unique experience to urban dwellers. During these events – happening between May 20th and August 20th – Gypsy bands will perform live music at 12 of Budapest’s renowned restaurants to create a captivating atmosphere through the music they play.
