To mark the anniversary of the first dance house event ever held,
Dance House Day
will be organized for the fourth time in Hungary and beyond with the aim of spreading the word about the movement, which started 43 years ago to help reconcile
folk dance
and
folk music
– and folk culture in general – with modern urban life. This year the
Béla Halmos Award and Medallion
will be handed out for the first time.
The main event will again be held in the emblematic
Liszt Ferenc Square
, on the podium set up in front of the statue of Ady. Watch as the professional dancers perform and teach dances from the Transdanubia, Mezőség, Zoboralja and Moldavia regions and from Serbia as live music plays. In the morning the little ones can participate in games with singing and dancing, while both adults and kids can explore the traditions of the various artisanal handicrafts or learn songs and listen to folk tales after a tiring dance session. At 3pm a moderated discussion will take place at a nearby café where the audience can find out about the first dance houses from former participants and organizers. Some of the featured bands are Borfolk, students of Liszt Academy’s Folk Music Department, Albert Nagy and band, Babra, Falkafolk, T’Rakija and Bontsál Banda.
