Downtown Budapest’s Beauty Pest Brow offers a unique beauty service that is not yet popular in Hungary, so it is not really available anywhere else nationwide. We do not often write about beauty tips, but we were so glad to see this service – which is already immensely popular abroad – pop up in the Magyar metropolis, we just had to spread the news. We are talking about an ancient Indian hair-removal technique that is mostly used for shaping eyebrows – and to attain perfectly plucked brows, all we need is some strong thread and the precise hands of the specialists working at the “brow bar”.
We thought that we could find nothing new in Budapest’s world of waxing bars and shopping centers crammed with manicure and pedicure salons; however, recently we started coming across videos of the Indian method of threading on YouTube and other video-sharing sites. We do not recommend trying this technique at home, as without special skills and expertise, the result is only truly unpleasant moments, red skin, and quite possibly an eyebrow fiasco. Believe us, you are better off trusting this job to the professionals – more precisely to the team of Beauty Pest Brow, who awaits guests in a tiny but exclusive salon on District XIII’s Raoul Wallenberg Street.
Among the beauty salon’s services we find facial treatments that utilize the products of Biologique Recherche – which we tested before – along with body treatments, eyelash services, mascara application, waxing, and manicures and pedicures. However, for this visit we were curious about the special method of eyebrow-styling that is still unique in Budapest. The salon’s two professionals come from Russia, where they gained lots of experience and expertise in the field, and already passed their extensive knowledge onto another lady. While this procedure seems easy from the outside, the tiny movements can only be brought to perfection through lots of practice. During our research we learned that some professionals hold the thread between their lips or around their neck other than in their hands, however, for the client this might be a bit uncomfortable and a slightly Spartan solution.
To use this extraordinary service, we first have to make an appointment. Afterwards, we arrive to this pretty little beauty parlor, where a professional takes a close look at our eyebrows, hair color, and face shape, and gives us advice on the shape, thickness, and color that would suit us best. Fortunately, we then decide on the final form together, so there won’t be any unpleasant surprises in the end. They revealed that they had a few problematic guests in the past, whose uneven, sinuous, or too-thin eyebrows could only be turned into a nicely curved, even, and thick frame for their face after several treatments. As today’s fashion trends and our taste dictate, we have to thrive on naturalness, avoiding a strikingly fake appearance.
While our eyebrows are threaded – a process which does not last longer than about 5-8 minutes – we are seated in a high makeup chair, and in order to achieve a perfectly precise look they do the final touches with eyebrow nippers where necessary. In threading, basically a thin thread is doubled and twisted into a shape that is similar to a bow tie, and is rolled over areas with unwanted hair, where the moving knot plucks the hair at the follicle level. This way, the thread can shape our eyebrows truly precisely. Everyone has different levels of pain tolerance, but we think that the treatment is easily endurable, and is not at all more painful than tweezing. It is slightly ticklish, and a bit sensitive, but were more focused on the strange noise of the procedure than the sensation itself. Waxing is always faster, but threading is more perfect and precise. After shaping, the styling service also includes eyebrow tinting with a natural and gentle gel.
According to experts, the treatment should be repeated every 3-4 weeks, basically like waxing. The color obviously fades a bit after a while, but the shape stays the same for weeks. See more details about the services and prices of Beauty Pest Brow here.
