Nagymező Street, also known as the Broadway of Pest, is home to long-standing theatres like the Operetta, Radnóti or Thália Theatre (Thália Színház). Since 1996, Thália has been functioning partly as a presenting theatre, featuring guest performances and guest artists. The Theatre was opened in 1913 and was originally called Jardin d’Hiver (after the winter garden on the mezzazzine). It has been through 12 name changes since its foundation. It hosted the shows of Madách Theatre and the Budapest Operetta Theatre during their reconstruction, and even the Hungarian exported some its premiers to Thália. Its neighbour is the Mai Manó Ház, the House of Hungarian Photography.
