Get a stylish hat and a pair of binoculars and you’re off to the races. Budapest’s racecourse, named after the unbeatable Hungarian ‘wondermare’ Kincsem, is worth a visit even just for the nostalgia value of seeing a vintage sports ground. Kincsem Park’s flat and trotting races are staged regularly – look out for the special meet on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve. Betting is fiendishly complicated but only involves relatively small sums of money. In summer, the park also hosts street-food festivals and other events besides races. It’s an easy hop on red metro M2.
