Fiumei Road Cemetery, located in Kerepesi út, is the final resting place of hundreds of notable national figures, including Hungarian politician Lajos Kossuth and statesman Ferenc Deák, poet Endre Ady and writer Mór Jókai. The heroes of the revolutions of 1848 and 1956 are also laid to rest here. When the cemetery opened in 1847 locals found it difficult to access: at that time you could only get to Kerepesi út through side roads. Today you can easily get there from Keleti Railway Station. Hungary’s National Burial Garden occupies an approximately 140-acre territory with beautifully designed tree-lined walkways, and awe-inspiring sculptures and monuments of prominent Hungarian figures.
