Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE)
The largest and oldest institute of higher education in Hungary, Eötvös Loránd University (Eötvös Loránd Tudomány Egyetem or ELTE) can be linked back to 1635. Today it has eight faculties, located on different campuses: humanities and law are in Pest, natural and social sciences in Buda. Its noted alumni include poet Mihály Babits, composer Zoltán Kodály and Noble Prize-winning scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi. The university’s most impressive building – situated at Egyetem tér – is used by law students.
