Bádog Gundel (Pléh Csárda), rántott hús

The diner Pléh Csárda, also known as Bádog Gundel (‘Tin Gundel’), is located in District XV. Although it is not exactly in a gastronomic mecca, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit, if only for the atmosphere. The place’s main characteristics include the sounds, scents and flavours of a homely kitchen, friendly service, and shockingly large and delicious portions. The menu mainly features classic, seasonal dishes. Their trademark Wiener schnitzel can always be found on their menu, sometimes weighing over a kilogram. The place first became known among locals in 2006, thanks to the Hungarian short film Szalontüdő, but in 2015, the late Antony Bourdain gained Pléh Csárda international fame when shooting an episode of Parts Unknown in Budapest, visiting the venue in the hope of getting rid of his hangover.
