Festivals, cool concerts, cultural events and amazing parties – Budapest is always buzzing. Every month, we bring together all the important happenings taking place in and around Hungary’s capital, so you can plan ahead. For June, the Downtown Beer Festival, the Backstreet Boys in concert and the Budapest Summer Festival are all among the many exciting events you shouldn’t miss. Whether you would like to shake it to the coolest beats, immerse yourself in culture or give in to guilty pleasures, we present a bunch of events for the upcoming weeks. The city’s main outdoor live-music party place, Budapest Park has put together a strong line-up of international and local acts, inspiring you to hop aboard scenic tram 2 and let loose at this vibrantly refurbished hangout. In June, Hungary’s Szabó Balázs Band, plus Sum41, The Disturbed, Scooter and Three Days Grace all take the stage at this mini festival venue. More details

Budapest Summer Festival

The Budapest Summer Festival – a cultural event series held between 1 June and 7 September – offers an even more colourful repertoire this year in the city’s sprawling greenery of Margaret Island and Városmajor Park. Home-grown Hungarian talent and prominent entertainers from all around the world will be giving eclectic performances, including classical concerts, captivating circus shows and soaring opera spectaculars. Must-see events include Puccini’s last and perhaps most astonishing work, Turandotthe debut of one of the most acclaimed violin soloists of her generation in Hungary, Nicola Benedettiand dance show Barbarian Nights. Generali Children's Island

Concerts, slackline, arts and crafts workshops, puppet shows, playhouses, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, trampolines and endless fun-filled games – every Saturday and Sunday between 1-23 JuneÓbuda Island, site of Budapest’s annual Sziget Festival, turns into an immense playground for adults and children alike. Countless exciting activities await amid the greenery, and entry is free for all. More details (in Hungarian)

Downtown Beer Festival

Between 5-10 JuneSzabadság tér in the city centre will be one of the best places to hang out in Budapest, thanks to endless quantities of constantly flowing cold beer. Throughout the event, you can enjoy flavoured local and imported specialities, beer premieres and live concerts. The largest number of craft-beer manufacturers from all over Hungary will be gathered at one spot, and food trucks offer delicious handheld treats. Entry to the festival is free, but you need to buy a tasting glass to try the endless ale variations. More details (in Hungarian)

Danube Carnival

Between 8-16 June, Budapest hosts one of Hungary’s most colourful cultural events, the Danube Carnival. This fun-filled multicultural jamboree offers a wide range of exciting happenings at various venues around the city, including performances of folk, symphonic and world music, as well as traditional and contemporary dance. Expect several hundreds of performers from Hungary and beyond, combining to create a vibrant atmosphere. More details



Californian trash metal legends Slayer hit the Papp László Sports Arena on 11 June. This concert is the Budapest stop on their farewell world tour after nearly 40 years in the business, winning two Grammy Awards and building a committed fan base. More details and tickets

Night of Movement

On 15 June, you can try several exciting sports from dragonboating on the Danube to taking a trip up Gellért Hill, doing zumba all night long or running with thousands of people along the riverbank. Night of Movement entices everyone outdoors for one night to flex those muscles and work on that beach bod. More details and registration (in Hungarian)

Kolorádó Festival

Hidden away in a big forest at Nagykovácsi, on the border of Budapest and mother nature, Kolorádó welcomes mellow merrymakers for four days of live music and fresh-air fun. During the day, revellers can recover from the night before while chilling amid the greenery and awakening their arty side. After the sun goes down, local and international musicians take the stage, enticing everyone to dance under starry skies until dawn. This year between 19-22 June, you can move to the music of Hungary’s The Moog, Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter Kurt Vile and many others. More details

Night of Museums

On 22 June, you can find out whether museums really do come alive after the sun goes down. The Night of Museums is an annual event when many exhibition venues in Budapest stay open until late at night, awaiting families with plenty of exciting events that can all be visited with one all-inclusive wristband. Besides perusing permanent and temporary museum displays, you can join the special cultural activities set up for the occasion across participating locations. More details

Backstreet Boys Concert

Backstreet’s back, alright! The biggest boy band of the ’90s play the Papp László Sportaréna on 25 June as part of their DNA world tour. Old favourites and songs from their latest album DNA should get you rocking. More details and tickets
